University of Strathclyde was founded in 1796 specializing in practical subjects. The university has developed its reputation and grown from approximately 4,000 full-time students in 1964 to over 20,000 students in 2003. In July 2015, Her Majesty The Queen has opened the Technology and Innovation Centre (TIC), at the University of Strathclyde. Strathclyde is the only Scottish university that offers the IET Power Academy engineering scholarships to its engineering students.The university ranks among the top 30 of the UK Research Excellence Framework (REF 2014) league table published by the Times Higher Education Supplement (THES). The University is one of the 39 old universities in the UK comprising the distinctive Cluster Two of elite universities after Ox-bridge.

The university currently consists of four main faculties categorized based on subjects and academic fields that they deal with and each faculty is sub divided into several departments which deal with specific academic and research areas.

Its courses are designed to help one develop key skills in engineering for the marine environment and apply them to practical problems through design project work you'll do both individually and in groups.All courses are fully accredited by the Royal Institution of Naval Architects and the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science & Technology.

In recent years the university has taught students from more than 52 countries around the world. You can study for a BEng or MEng degree at University of Strathclyde. A BEng typically takes four years, while an MEng takes five. All undergraduate courses are built around a core of Naval Architecture combined with a specialism which you can choose to match your interests: marine engineering, ocean engineering, high performance marine vehicles.
